Calf Secure® - The First Global Biosecurity Platform Dedicated To Calves

Calf Secure® is a science-based digital platform developed in collaboration with Biocheck.UGent®, the internationally recognised biosecurity company from Ghent University. It is the first global tool specifically designed to assess, quantify and monitor biosecurity in calf-rearing systems.

Purpose-built for calves, this platform helps veterinarians, advisors, and producers identify critical control points in calf management, measure biosecurity status, and guide continuous improvement through structured reporting and follow-up. 

Importantly, this tool is not intended for Huvepharma®'s internal use - it is developed exclusively as a practical solution for the field, to support and empower animal health professionals and farm teams. It is available without any costs via the mobile application or the dedicated website (Figure 1).

What Calf Secure® offers

Calf Secure® combines Biocheck.UGent®'s validated methodology and leadership in biosecurity with Huvepharma®'s practical field experience and calf health expertise to deliver a structured evaluation of on-farm biosecurity risks. 

The platform, accessible both online and via an offline mobile application, includes a comprehensive questionnaire covering: 

• External biosecurity - including animal introductions, supply flows, and personnel or visitor management
• Internal biosecurity - including colostrum and milk management, health protocols, pen hygiene, feeding routines, and animal movement

Users receive a standardised biosecurity score customised to their own farm situation, segmented by risk areas and presented in a clear, easy-to-understand report. Scores can be tracked over time, compared across sites, and benchmarked against international standards. 

Why it matters

The early stages of life are critical for long-term health and productivity. Yet, until now, calf-specific biosecurity has lacked structured tools for evaluation and improvement.
