Standard trimethoprim has poor solubility in drinking water leading to immediate sedimentation after administration in a proportioner. This first-line treatment option can now be successfully administered in highly concentrated stock solutions due to the nanonisation of trimethoprim. 

HydroTrim®: a unique and innovative formulation

Nanonisation of trimethoprim overcomes the solubility issue by substantially reducing the particle size into the nanometre range. Nanoparticles have a much larger contact surface with water molecules, resulting in optimal distribution in the stock container and pipelines of the drinking water system.
