Selecting the right feed enzyme is a technical and strategic decision. Using the best nutritional tool ensures optimal animal performance while being cost-effective.
As well as considering nutritional strategies, any chosen enzyme needs to cope with the processing challenges associated with feed production, namely stability during conditioning and pelleting steps. It is known that the processing stability of enzymes is influenced by numerous factors including:
The multiple combinations of these factors are of critical importance to understanding enzyme processing stability.
Concerns over the susceptibility of enzymes to high temperatures has increased recently as more challenging conditions are used in feed processing, for example as part of Salmonella control programs or feed hygiene plans. Such aggressive processing may lead to significant enzyme activity losses.
The processing stability of the microgranulated xylanase enzyme Hostazym® X has been validated in multiple research trials which show its thermostability up to 85 oC with an acceptance recovery criterion of 80%. Until now, for processes exceeding 85 oC or with harsh conditioning steps, Hostazym® X liquid or WSP formulations were recommended. These products are applied post-pelleting thus concerns over enzyme activity losses are removed. Nonetheless, application of liquid enzymes is not always feasible or of interest to customers. This pushed development efforts towards increasing the thermostability of Hostazym® X so that it can be added to the mixer in a dry form even when harsher processes are being used.
Huvepharma now offers Hostazym® X CT, a fat-coated formulation of microgranulated Hostazym® X. The fat coating improves the heat stability of the enzyme by 5 oC compared to the standard formulation, making Hostazym® X CT suitable for use in feeds processed up to 90 oC. Average results from different pelleting studies and from the first customer trial are shown in Figure 1.
Hostazym® X CT delivers the same animal efficiency as microgranulated Hostazym® X and is the solution for customers working with challenging processing conditions. The product is available as 15,000 and 30,000 EPU/g commercial formulations.

Hostazym® X CT is the new tool for customers using more aggressive feed processing conditions. With more thermostability, Hostazym® X CT ensures efficient animal production thanks to its unique efficacy in improving nutrient digestibility, promoting animal growth, and contributing to a healthier gut.
